Building Community: The Heart Behind NorthStar Family Day

At NorthStar, we’ve always believed that what we’re building is bigger than soccer. The game is what brings us together. It gives us a space to run, compete, and grow. But over time, something deeper has taken root. Through practices, games, and everyday interactions, we’ve seen relationships form, trust grow, and a genuine sense of community develop. From the beginning, we’ve wanted to create a space where we can grow together and build meaningful community.
This spring marks something special for us as we prepare to host our first annual NorthStar Family Day. This event has been on our hearts for a long time. Since Harrison and I stepped into our roles, we’ve talked about creating something that brings everyone together. We wanted it to be something that was not centered around competition or performance, but centered around people. For the past three years, we’ve hoped for an opportunity to create a space that reflects the beauty and diversity of the community we are part of and continuing to build.
NorthStar has never just been about developing soccer players. It’s about building people, and people are formed in community. We see it every day in small but meaningful ways through players encouraging each other, families showing up consistently, and conversations that go beyond the field. There’s a verse that continues to shape how we think about this: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17. That idea is at the core of what we hope NorthStar represents. We are not just individuals participating in the same program; we are people who are shaping and strengthening one another.
In many ways, NorthStar Family Day is also something simple but deeply important to us: a thank you. For years, we’ve wanted to communicate clearly to our families how much we value them, not just for their involvement, but for who they are. NorthStar would not be what it is without the families who trust us with their children, who invest their time, and who contribute to the culture that makes this community what it is. We are genuinely grateful to know you and your children, and we don’t take that for granted.
We are incredibly excited to finally host this event. It represents something we’ve hoped for and worked toward, even if quietly, over the past few years. At the same time, we know this is just the beginning. Our hope is that NorthStar Family Day becomes something we continue year after year. Something that grows, improves, and deepens in meaning each time we gather.
If NorthStar is going to be what we believe it can be, it has to continue being about more than soccer. It has to remain about people, about showing up for one another, celebrating together, and building something that lasts. We’re looking forward to taking this step together as a community.
We can’t wait to share this day with you.
