At NorthStar Soccer Ministries we love soccer. Staff and volunteers have lots of fun teaching the game to youth. Many of the kids we work with would not have the opportunity to play soccer otherwise and their opportunities to participate in any sports program (especially one taking them to competition around the region) would be limited. Even more significant is the opportunity for life impact through mentoring, skill building that leads to increased self-confidence, and social skills through through the team experience.
NorthStar Values: Responsible - Resilient - Reverent. We are working to model these values to youth at all levels and to design our programs to maximize opportunities to instill them in our youth. Click on each value for more details on what it means to us and what it looks like on a program level.
NorthStar Intramural League is a program for pre-school and elementary school aged players. We form teams by age group at different practice locations and play Saturday games at our primary field - Cornerstone Field in Woodlawn. NorthStar Intramural League is active in both the spring and fall seasons. Coaching is primarily provided by parents and college student volunteers.
Birmingham Youth Soccer League is a brand new program launching in February 2021. It is an in-school program for 4th & 5th grade students in Birmingham City Schools and is open to other schools wishing to participate. The league will operate in February and March only. Practices and games will be after-school. Teams will represent their schools in competition. Players will have the opportunity to participate in tournament teams and move on to NorthStar Club Teams in the Spring and/or Fall seasons. We are currently in the process of securing funding for this exciting new program. There are opportunities to have your company or organization support recognized on jerseys. Contact Paul Neville today for more information.
NorthStar Club Teams pull together youth from upper elementary through middle school and sometimes high school to participate in teams that compete outside of NorthStar Club in the Birmingham area and beyond. Teams will compete in a local recreational league or the Alabama State League (Alabama Soccer Association) depending on experience and skill level. Club teams are active in both the Spring and Fall seasons. Recreational level Club Teams are open to all players but some Club Teams are selective based on player pool.
Programs in Development include (these 'programs' are happening in very small ways now with plans to develop them as full-fledged program efforts): NorthStar Soccer Camp (two-week skill camp for Club Team players that will include instructional swimming, art, reading, financial literacy as well as soccer skill training); NorthStar Elite Player Development Program (providing on going support for skill development and other needs for players who 'graduate' from NorthStar on to high level teams in the region); NorthStar Leadership Development Program (providing opportunities and training for older/former NorthStar players to 'give-back' and meaningfully serve younger players in the program as well as supporting them in next stages of life).
NorthStar exists because we believe every child matters.
NorthStar Soccer Ministries mission is to invest in the lives of urban youth in Birmingham by providing a high quality Soccer Club within a holistic, Christian environment. We also provide opportunities for the local community and local business to share in our investment in enriching these children's lives.
